How does the TH389U differ from the TH389?

In its rating. The TH389U is designed for 25 A at 630 V AC, the TH389 for 17.5 A at 500 V. The conductor cross-section is larger too: 0.5 to 2.5 mm² instead of 0.25 to 1.5 mm². In return, the TH389U comes only with 2+PE and 3+PE poles, while the TH389 offers 4 and 5 poles.

What does self-lock mean?

The self-lock socket connector latches automatically when mated and can only be released with a tool. This prevents accidental disconnection during operation. The other versions use push-pull locking and separate by hand.

Which cable diameters does the connector accept?

7 to 13 mm. Conductor cross-section may be between 0.5 and 2.5 mm², stranded or solid. Strip 6 mm of conductor and 25 mm of sheath; the terminal screws are tightened to 0.8 Nm.

Q: Is the TH389U silicone-free?

No. The UP version uses silicone seals. It is halogen-free. Where silicone-free components are required, around paint shops for example, the TH389 with TPE seals is the suitable alternative.

Description

The TH389U is the UP version of the TH389 mini series. Similar in appearance, considerably stronger electrically: 25 A at 630 V AC instead of 17.5 A at 500 V, with conductor cross-sections from 0.5 to 2.5 mm² — stranded or solid. It covers the loads at which the standard series stops.

Cable-mounted versions

This page shows the versions for cable mounting: cable plug connector and cable socket connector, each with 2+PE and 3+PE poles, for cable diameters from 7 to 13 mm. Connection is by screw terminal at a tightening torque of 0.8 Nm; strip 6 mm of conductor and 25 mm of sheath.

The socket connector is also available as a self-lock version. It latches automatically when mated and can only be released with a tool — useful wherever a connection must not come apart accidentally during operation. The other versions use push-pull locking and are rated for 100 mating cycles.

Protection and materials

Protection rating is IP66 and IP68, impact resistance IK08. The housing is glass-fibre reinforced PA66 to UL94 V0, the gland PA66 to UL94 V2, the contacts brass. The temperature range runs from −40 to +125 °C with a maximum operating temperature of +70 °C. Tested to EN 61535, with CE and UKCA marking.

Unlike the TH389, the UP version uses silicone seals. Where silicone-free components are required — around paint shops, for instance — the TH389 with TPE seals is the right choice.
